This course provides both a big-picture view of dyslexia for psychologists as well as advances in science, practice, and situations dyslexic individuals are likely to encounter at school and into adulthood. Brain-based studies of dyslexia and gifted development are discussed as well as how giftedness can impact on how dyslexia can present on psychometric tests.  Differentiation, accommodation, and social-emotional issues are discussed.  The presentation also discusses controversies regarding dyslexia definitions, school policies such as RTI and tiered intervention, controversies regarding ability-achievement discrepancy, the evolving research literature on strengths and talents of dyslexic people, and ways psychologists can advocate for their clients.
