Guardians of the Galaxy 2 has cruised to over $730 million global earnings this past week with both Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax (Dave Bautista) sharing their dyslexia with fans.
It’s becoming increasingly common for Hollywood headliners to share their back story and include details about being dyslexic. Zoe mentioned her dyslexia to the New York Times when she talked about the challenge of learning scripts because of her dyslexia and thinking in Spanish. Dave talked about his dyslexia when mentioning ‘table reads’ for his role in Avengers Infinity War.
Watch Zoe and her fellow cast members talk about what their kids think about Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Beside being a mom to 3 boys (read more about Zoe here), Kids Choice Awards awarded her the “Favorite Butt Kicker” Award from Nickelodeon and Teen’s Choice Awards Favorite Sci-Fi Movie actress.
Dyslexics are commonly found in the film industry because of their creativity and visual and physical storytelling ability. Actresses and actors often draw on strengths in personas, voice, empathy, and imitation in their acting work. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 looks like its off to a great start for the summer. There’s also a nice diversity message in the story of intergalactic misfits. Kudos to Zoe and Dave for talking about dyslexia!
