This is a great app for dyslexics – it’s Free now, but don’t know how long the promotion will last. See it in the iTunes store HERE. The paid app is $4.99
Take a picture of anything – menu, street signs, word problems, even a foreign language – and have it read back to you in your native language! This free version has more than 30 languages – including English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and more.

- tap Next
- tap Check Mark (lower right)
- tap Speaker icon …. and listen!
The OCR is very fast. Some people get an audio error if they press the wrong buttons, but the ones above work.
There is also an ad at the top that is a distraction (don’t click that).
The app is incredibly handy for students and adults getting through blocks of text. Can also help a lot with homework – but some minor punctuation mistakes may be missed.
p.s. some people report an error with iOS8 / iPhone 6 (I assume the developer is working out the bugs). Also I recently discovered it’s possible to gift paid apps to people.
