The world says goodbye to legendary gospel musician Andrae Crouch who was a seven-time Grammy award winner who led choirs for Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror and wrote songs such as My Tribute (To God Be the Glory) and Soon and Very Soon which was sung at Jackson’s memorial service. He received an Academy Award nomination for music in The Color Purple and arranged music for The Lion King. He performed with Elvis Presley, Elton John, Diana Ross, Ringo Starr, and many other stars.
Andrae called dyslexia “his blessing” and found he could create lyrics by drawing pictures to understand the concept of songs.
“I memorized everything through sight, the shape of the word,” Crouch told The Associated Press in 2011. “Some things that I write, you’ll see a page with cartoon pictures or a drawing of a car — like a Ford — or a flag. I still do it on an occasion when a word is strange to me.”
