jewell-loyd-rookie-year-dyslexiaWoo hoo! Dyslexic Advantage International Ambassador Jewell Loyd has won this year’s prestigious WNBA Rookie of the Year!

At just 21 years old, Jewell has led all WNBA rookies in scoring and free-throw percentages of greater than 90%!

Jewell beat NY rookie Kiah Stokes by 5 votes!

Dyslexic Advantage was thrilled to be mentioned by Sports Illustrated and the Washington Post.

“Loyd has not only excelled on the court this season but also off it. She recently was selected as the international ambassador for Dyslexic Advantage and is a spoke person for Eye to Eye, another organization to help people with learning disabilities.

(Jewell): “A  big part of being a professional athlete is the opportunity you have to use your voice for good, so one of the first things I did was write about my dyslexia and the challenges and opportunities that came from it. I wanted to encourage kids with learning disabilities to be proud and dream big,” Loyd said. “To think that through basketball I am able to change lives is really such a dream come true.”

Go Jewell Go!  Jewell soon will be heading to Turkey to play for the Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray.

Jewell has many dyslexic advantages – including spatial abilities, visualization, grit, and more. Jewell also showed foresight and metacognition in her decision to watch first at the beginning of the season in order to analyze the unique features of her new team. What a wonderful role model for so many students! Jewell is Seattle Storm’s first winner of the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year!  CONGRATULATIONS JEWELL!
