Dyslexic Advantage: Who We Are
Dyslexic Advantage was founded in 2012 by Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide, directors of national referral Neurolearning clinic in Washington state and co-founders of Neurolearning SPC. The Eides also wrote The Mislabeled Child and The Dyslexic Advantage which has been revolutionizing how children’s learning differences and in particular, how dyslexia is understood. Instead of seeing dyslexia through an only negative lens, they present research-based evidence to support a more balanced view of dyslexia that takes into account its strengths as well as its challenges.
Today, Dyslexic Advantage is one of the largest communities of dyslexic people with over 70,000 members and serving over 170,000 unique website visitors per month and over 7 million website requests. Dyslexic Advantage has had one of the largest scholarship programs specifically for dyslexic college students, and they also support the talent development of dyslexic young people in the arts, STEM, and creative writing. Together with other dyslexia organizations, Dyslexic Advantage has provided critical research that has supported new funded new dyslexia laws throughout the country creating a new era of teacher training and student identification.
As an organization, Dyslexic Advantage has contributed to university-based research studies all over the world and also led the way for improve accessibility and the design of technology for dyslexic users. Through private and public research efforts, Dyslexic Advantage has contributed to the design of Microsoft One Note Learning Tools, Amazon Kindle Fire, among other tools, and increase awareness of the strengths of dyslexic employees and executives as well practical considerations regarding a diverse workforce.
Through their print publications, Dyslexic Advantage places practical information directly into the hands of parents, students, dyslexic adults and professionals, equipping them to use research-based interventions to promote achievement at all levels of education and employment.
